Violence: It's more than TV and Video Games

Physically, the liver is the largest gland;  it is the producer of bile which is critical to proper fat breakdown, it degrades toxins including drugs, alcohol, hormones and any unused materials.   Between meals it breaks down stored glycogen to maintain energy levels.  The liver is one of the major blood cleaning centers of the body.   Toxicity of blood, and of food we eat, as well as diets high in saturated fat increase the workload on the liver, contributing to liver stress and scarring.
I’d like to share the organ network (meridians) and the physical, emotional, spiritual components of each.   Today I’m highlighting the Liver channel, as it reflects so much of the ills our society is dealing with now:
But in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the liver is the ‘General of the Blood,’ and the General of the Blood is responsible for the smooth, even flow of blood and qi throughout the body, especially in maintaining normal  Spleen and Stomach functions.  Because the stomach receives the food, and the spleen is responsible for the separation of the 'impure food essence' from the 'pure food essence,' all of which happens optimally only when the liver is working smoothly, the smooth function of the liver keeps our food processing center in top working order.

That is only one aspect of the liver's responsibilities.   The smooth flow of qi is also responsible for the lubrication of tendons and ligaments, as well as the flexibility of joints in general.  Arthritis and joint pain are associated with an imbalance of liver function.

In TCM, our emotional/spiritual health is indelibly connected to our physical functions.  The liver is also the seat of the Hun, or Non-Corporeal Soul, which, when in balance, fosters benevolence and human kindness and healthy self-worth.  But when the liver is out of balance and the Hun is disturbed, anger, belligerence, hatred and low self-esteem can be the result.   The emotional component of the General of the Blood is organization, planning and strategy.  When there is congestion in the liver, rather than efficient planning, a person is often angry, or indecisive or both.
Look at the far-reaching implications of a country of people with congested livers:  belligerence, anger, hatred, and an impaired ability to feel physical or spiritual suffering in themselves or others.  Then add difficulty in planning and organizing their lives – does any of this sound like the news?!

Our normal American diet of fried and processed foods, generally deficient in fruits and vegetables, is a recipe for disaster for our livers - and our society.

And that's why - Healing the energetics of our bodies is so much more important than addressing the symptoms - if the root problem can be corrected, then the symptom will go away.

Insomnia.    Those who don't experience it, can't imagine it.   Rolling over, rolling back, the mind on its own little hamster wheel - around and around!   There are two types of insomniacs - those who can't get to sleep and those who wake up in 3 am and can't get back to sleep.

I had a very strange experience a couple of nights ago.   I had been having trouble going to sleep for a few nights, and that isn't common for me.   If I have trouble sleeping, I wake up at 2 or 3 am and can't go back to sleep until 5 or 6 am, then I have to get up at 7 am - it makes for a short night.   I've done some of my best work between 4 and 5 am!

But I digress:   I had been tired before I went to bed and thought I would just drift gently off to dreamland - but no.   I closed my eyes and the weirdest thing happened:  it was like seeing the back of my retina (ala the eye doctor visit) but it was just popping in and out and back and forth.   I opened my eyes then closed them again, same thing.   I'd gone to Des Moines a few weeks ago and gotten a session with Fonda Hall, my Body Talk instructor, and one of the techniques she'd used was the "Switching" technique.   This is part of the Body Talk™ self-help regimen, too, but I hadn't used it for awhile.   Seeing all of that strange light show made me think of it, though, and it 'deSwitched' myself in a few minutes.  I had the best night's sleep that I've had for a long time.

If you are troubled with insomnia, you might give me a call and check out the different techniques that help bring a body back to balance!

Your Challenge to Shine!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

Headaches? Stiff Neck?

The spheno-basilar joint lies at the top of the spinal column.   It joins the major bones of the head, the parietal, the temporal and occipitant.    It is easily put out of whack by both physical bumps and emotional upheaval.   It can be “locked down” which is often described as a feeling of being out of touch with one’s surroundings, being depressed, etc.   “Locked up” creates the opposite effect, creating “hyper” tendencies or even “manic” expressions.   I have seen the most amazing results from using this Body Talk technique in response to complaints of headaches, TMJ issues, swallowing difficulties, not to mention “foggy head” and a variety of perception imbalances.   One woman came to me with a sudden onset of swallowing, talking and “locked jaw” symptoms.   Another came with migraine headaches that she’d had for over a year, with no pathology in a battery of tests.    The first woman was under extreme stress at work and came to see me the second day of her symptoms, a very short session including the balancing of the SB joint relieved all symptoms.     The second woman with chronic migraine experienced dramatic results with her first session – which also included balancing the SB joint.    This is a simple, non-manipulative correction that can resolve a variety of “head” and “spinal” issues.    Call today for an appointment if you experience any of the described symptoms, including forgetfulness, fuzzy-headedness, even chronic neck stiffness!
